Join me for 6 Wednesdays of not your average watercolor class!
*All levels of experience welcome!
Friends, this is not your traditional watercolor class. Watercolor is a medium that I've learned to love and it's been a long and meandering journey (not unlike everything art-related in my life) but I can sum it up into a few key points.
- I think of watercolors as a meditative tool. I’ve got a busy brain and I need tricks to quiet the swirly thoughts. Paying close attention to how a brush moves across a sheet of paper can be very soothing.
-I find it important to practice non-judgment in the early stages of painting. I notice what happens and respond without labeling it as good or bad.
-AND most importantly I am unconcerned about the official rules of watercolor. I use both gouache and watercolor, sometimes in the same work. Sometimes it’s nice to get a bold opaque color next to a light washy sky. I’m not afraid to use white paint or a gel pen, or cut up a painting and turn it into collage material.
Yes, you will learn concrete, and traditional watercolor techniques but it will happen by following your curiosity and leaning into observations. You will learn the tips, tricks, and techniques that suit you, your aesthetic, and your unique vision.
We'll meet from 11 am - 1 pm on Wednesdays April 5, 12, 19, 26, and May 3 and 10. For the first 4 weeks, we'll meet at The Signature Arts Building (link below) and for the last 2 weeks of class we'll head to a beautiful and inspiring to paint on location.
What's included?
-A cutie patootie travel art kit that includes a travel palette, travel brush, and a 9 x 12-inch block of watercolor paper (15 pages).
-All materials used in class ( feel free to bring your own if you have favorites) including watercolors, gouache, brushes, and paper.
-Weekly prompts to make a blank sheet of paper less intimidating and get you creating.
-A super supportive community of artists to create with each week (beginners and first-time painters welcome)
-Instruction and support from me.
